Kind of losing track of all the different calls for papers for conferences, etc., so here are a bunch in one place. Most of these I am not really considering – I have only so much time and money for conferences, but these do look interesting. Quite a few have very imminent deadlines. Covering Game development, game research, games in education, learning technology, computers in education, and games for change… more below:
*Deadline Imminent* AISB 2008 Symposium: Logic and the Simulation of Interaction and Reasoning
Aberdeen, Scotland; 3-4 April 2008
Extended Deadline of 30 January 2008
In the past years, logicians have become more and more interested in the phenomenon of interaction. The area “logic and games” deals with the transition from the static logical paradigm of formal proof and derivation to the dynamic world of intelligent interaction and its logical models. A number of conferences and workshops have been dealing with logic in game and decision theory and dynamic logics with announcement and action operations. Fruitful technical advances have led to deep insights into the nature of communicative interaction and behaviour by logicians.
While these interactive aspects are relatively new to logicians, on a rather different level, modelling intelligent interaction has been an aspect of the practical work of computer game designers, researchers in artificial intelligence, robotics, and human-machine interaction for a long time. The practical aspects of simulating interaction and behaviour reach out to a wide interdisciplinary field including psychology and cognitive science.

The guiding principle of this conference is “Knowing from experience”. Therefore, we kindly ask you to consider the following recommendations:
- Focus on active learning and avoid just presenting information;
- Focus on action and interaction instead of one-way communication;
- Try to explore new areas and challenges for gaming simulations’ theory and practice, and to introduce new authors with fresh insights and views;
- When preparing your contribution, stipulate learning objectives for yourself as well as for your audience.

ALT-C 2008: Rethinking the digital divide
Leeds, UK, 9-11 September 2008
Submissions close on 29 February 2008
I attended last year, and it was a great conference for me. The biggest problem was the sheer size – both in terms of the number of talks to choose between, and the distance to cover between them at times. Great line up of keynotes for 2008.
Our keynote speakers will be David Cavallo, Chief Learning Architect for One Laptop per Child, and Head of the Future of Learning Research Group at MIT Media Lab; Dr Itiel Dror, Senior Lecturer in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Southampton; and Hans Rosling, Professor of International Health, Karolinska Institute, Sweden, and Director of the Gapminder Foundation.

Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, USA
Papers and Industry Track abstracts due April 22, 2008
Extended abstracts for demonstrations due May 6, 2008
I’m very unlikely to make this one. I’ve been doing less and less A.I. work, it’s a bit of a budget-buster for me, plus a fair bit of travelling…
AIIDE’08 – the Fourth Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Interactive Digital Entertainment – is intended to be the definitive point of interaction between entertainment software developers interested in AI and academic and industrial AI researchers. AIIDE’08 will include invited speakers, research and industry presentations, project demonstrations, and product exhibits. While traditionally emphasizing commercial computer and video games, we invite researchers and developers to share their insights and cutting-edge results on all topics at the interface of entertainment and artificial intelligence, including serious games, entertainment robotics, and beyond. AIIDE’08 is sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI).
Not a conference at all, but note the recently launched International Journal of Computer Games Technology, which has a call for a special issue on AI for games.
