Just recovering from a busy travel and conference year (compared to usual anyway), and now to start planning what conferences I’ll be applying for for next year. Some of the contenders currently vieing for my attention are listed below. Listing them here does not mean I’ll be going, but I will be considering it!
Ed-Media will be in Austria, June 30th to July 4th. This is pretty huge event judging by the lists of papers from this year’s event (from the same site). You can download most of the keynote presentations from this year, and browse the abstracts of the other talks – but few have powerpoints or other materials uploaded. Deadline for submissions is Dec. 15th.
ALT-C 2008 will be in Leeds, 9th to 11th September, and keynotes will include David Cavallo of OLPC and Hans Rosling of Gapminder. Submission deadline t.b.a. I enjoyed this year’s event – even though my own presentation somehow got scheduled up against the only other MMO based presentation!
Staffordshire University will be hosting a conference dedicated to all things MMOG – MMOGfest, June 5th & 6th. “The scope of the 2 day conference is broad, encompassing the many angles of the current state of play of massive multiplayer games, in all their forms.” The deadline for abstracts (250 words) is not until March 30th, so plenty of time.
The Higher Education Academy, Information and Computer Sciences (HEA-ICS) are again supporting a Massively Multi-Learner workshop. This time round its being organised by Mike Hobbs and will be at Anglia-Ruskin on March 18th. The call for proposals is currently open, and Mike is hoping to have a large number of ‘hands-on’ practical workshops and demonstrations. Details for the 2008 HEA-ICS annual conference have not yet been posted, but they will appear here at some point.
I’m already fairly committed to attending next year’s Second Life Community Convention, which will be in Tampa, Florida, over the weekend of September 4th. This is likely to be one of the more fun events in my calendar, but coming back from that to ALT-C might be quite exhausting.
No details yet for the UK MoodleMoot 2008, but I imagine they will appear here when they are known.
iLearning Forum Paris doesn’t have the date on the front page, which is an odd omission, but will be on Feb. 4th and 5th, with Learning in the 21st Century as its theme. Deadline for abstracts (up to 750 words) is the 30th of November, so still time to apply.
ISAGA 2008, the conference of the International Simulation and Gaming Association, will be Lithuania – July 7th-11th. Proposals for special sessions have to be submitted by the 1st of December, while the deadline for papers is the 1st of February. The conference program runs from the 8th-10th, the additional days being used for the social program.
There will be many more Games-Based Learning, Virtual-worlds and education technology conferences and workshops to consider, but these are the ones that sprung to mind immediately.
If anyone has additional recommendations (pref. UK or Europe – I have a limited budget of both time and money!), please let me know.
